Building For Her Future Girls Incorporated of Sioux City has completed a capital campaign to build a new $5 million, 25,000 square foot facility. Construction began in the summer of 2008. Completion of the structure and move-in occurred June 1, 2009.
There is a special joy that comes with exploring, learning and performing in fresh surroundings equipped with the latest technologies. Girls deserve nothing less than to have life-changing experiences in facilities designed and renovated for the 21st century. Our previous classroom space was underground, with inadequate light, ventilation, and environmental controls. Instructional spaces were dark and poorly configured; they could not be easily modified because of the structure of the building.
Expanded programming - Three national program areas – Leadership and Community Action, Careers and Life Planning, and Culture & Heritage – were offered in truncated versions because the old facility did not accommodate full implementation. The new facility allows for complete national program offerings on an ongoing basis.
Elimination of the waiting list, thereby increasing membership and serving every girl wishing to join - The need for safe, educational environment for children continues to grow. In past years, girls were turned away simply because we did not have the space to accommodate them. Appropriate layout of space for programming, along with expanded square footage would allow us to serve significantly larger numbers and to enroll throughout the summer.
A handicapped accessible facility allows us to provide services to more diverse populations of girls – the old building was not handicapped accessible.
Increased visibility of the organization in the community while giving community members an opportunity to become stakeholders in the future of the girls and the organization – the location of the new facility, in a city park, gives greater access to potential members and their families and greater visibility within the community.
Enhanced access for girls and their families – we now have daily access to both natural beauty and recreational opportunities in the heart of the city including green space, playground, swimming pool, tennis and basketball courts, softball field, skate park, outdoor learning center, and outdoor performance pavilion.
An opportunity for sustainable funding through gym rental and concession sales to sports leagues – our new facility features a full-sized gym with locker rooms and bleachers that lends itself to rental to other groups and individuals in the community.
