Building For Her Future

Girls Incorporated of Sioux City has embarked on a capital campaign to build a new $5 million, 25,000 square foot facility.  Construction is slated to begin in the spring of 2008 with completion and move-in during the fall/winter.  Fund raising began on May 12, 2007.
To date, approximately half of the goal has been raised through foundation, individual and corporate pledges and contributions.

There is a special joy that comes with exploring, learning and performing in fresh surroundings equipped with the latest technologies.  Girls deserve nothing less than to have life-changing experiences in facilities designed and renovated for the 21st century.  Our current classroom space is underground with inadequate light, ventilation, and environmental controls.  Instructional spaces are dark and poorly configured and cannot be easily modified because of the structure of the building.

Expanded programming - Three national program areas – Leadership and Community Action, Careers and Life Planning, and Culture & Heritage – are currently offered in truncated versions because the current facility will not accommodate full implementation.  A new facility will allow for complete national program offerings on an ongoing basis.

Elimination of the waiting list, thereby increasing membership and serving every girl wishing to join
- The level of need for safe, educational environment for children continues to grow.  In the past five years, over 300 girls were turned away simply because we did not have the space to accommodate them.  Appropriate layout of space for programming, along with expanded square footage would allow us to serve significantly larger numbers.

A handicapped accessible facility would further allow service to more diverse populations of girls – the current building is not handicapped accessible.

Increased visibility of the organization in the community while giving community members an opportunity to become stakeholders in the future of the girls and the organization – the planned location of the new facility, in a city park, would give greater access to potential members and their families and greater visibility within the community.

Enhanced access for girls and their families – access to both natural beauty and recreational opportunities in the heart of the city including green space, playground, swimming pool, tennis and basketball courts, softball field, skate park, outdoor learning center, and outdoor performance pavilion.

An opportunity for sustainable funding through gym rental and concession sales to sports leagues – a full-sized gym with recreational center features such as locker rooms and risers lends itself to rental to other groups and individuals in the community.
